Climate - Warming? Evidence is key. We have absolutely NO evidence that we are causing
the climate to change to a warming state. We DO have physics - that tell us that
a rise in atmospheric CO2 should indeed result in warming. However, we DO NOT KNOW
what feedbacks will result, and for that very reason I don’t believe that ‘our’ CO2
is causing the slight rise in global temperatures. But howdo we even know for certain
if our grasp on the physics of carbon dioxide warming is even correct? Has there
been warming in the recent past, and was it natural? If we are causing the current
rise by our CO2 emissions then why has this happened? If global temperatures start
to fall (as some are predicting) then we would have introduced a terrible burden
of ‘climate taxation’ upon ourselves for absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Generating
electricity in a ‘low carbon’ way would have raised fuel bills pointlessly. If we
need to invest in nuclear fuel generating stations to ensure a safe and independent
electrical supply then fine, let’s do it for that reason. But let’s not blindly,
and unilaterally beat ourselves up financially if CO2 is not having a great effect
on global temperatures. Therein lies madness. My beef with the Met Office is that
they’re grossly incompetent. Their forecasts for seasons has been abysmal, yet they
think they can predict the climate decades into the future. Here is the global temperature
record of the past 32 years with what they THINK will happen to global temperature
in just TWO years from now:
Yes that little red dot is where the Met Office THINK the global temperature will
be in 2014. You can see the video on youtube here. This is going to be interesting
because either they are going to be spectacularly right, or amusingly wrong! I’m
going to go with the latter. Vicky Pope also states that half of the years after
2009 will be hotter than 1998 (which was 0.548 deg c). So how has she done so far?
Let’s have a look...
2010 was 0.478 deg c
2011 was 0.340 deg c
So, oh dear, she doesn’t appear to be doing very well so far. It would look as though
Vicky Pope (and the Met Office) simply drew a thick line from 1992 to 2006, and extrapolated
from that! But that’s not science. If global temperatures start to rise again then
clearly something is going on and needs to be explained. But If my suspicions are
correct then global temperatures will start to fall very soon. But still, we have
rotten predictions by Vicky Pope of the Met Office which appear to be so far off
the mark as to be humourous.
